2.3 Export Categories
In the Category section, you have a possibility to transfer some selected categories or all of them to the separate file by using the Export wizard tool.
To start exporting press 'Export Data' option on the top categories’ toolbar or use the right-mouse clicking to call the context menu with necessary command and open its start page.
In the wizard form, you can see the numbered steps of export procedure on the left - you can press necessary position here or use the button below and move to the next page (step) of the export process.
Follow such steps to perform the export process successfully:
1) Specify the file where your data will be located after export. If you want to update the existing file - make sure that it is acceptable and readable.
Load configuration field serves for uploading previously saved the export configuration from a file (by pressing the 'browse' arrow option) or from the wizard's drop-down menu.
This significantly speeds up the passage of the following steps of the export procedure.
You can delete the existing export configuration by choosing the appropriate position ‘Delete configuration’ or clear the whole configuration list - ‘Clear list’ - after pressing the corresponding button from the drop-down menu:
'Upload file via FTP' field opens the form for specifying the main FTP details to be able to transfer export data to the file located on your FTP server.
But you should check if you use properly FTP credentials.
To verify the correctness of the FTP details go to Preferences - Database Connection - FTP - and press 'Test Connection' button. If you get such message as an illustration below you are able to proceed with exporting:
2) On the following step of the export select delimiter characters for fields data separation.
Be sure to check them to ensure proper configuration and accurate exporting of WooCommerce categories.
Delimiter Character - the typical delimiters are the comma (,), semicolon (;) and tab character ( ), however, other symbols can be used as well. The resultant export file is usually generated for further processing,
and subsequent re-importing, or import into another Store, or application.
Quote string values - this specifies the character used to separate strings in the CSV file. This field should be checked to avoid the incorrect display of the data in a file after export (see the illustration with the warning message below):
3) Fields to export form - you have to determine what categories fields you want to be exported. choose necessary ones in the left and move them to the right by using the appropriate buttons in the middle.
If you need to add some formula for merging columns or increasing/decreasing some value during export process use the ‘Add simple expression field’ button which calls the 'Expression Editor form'.
Expression - special formula, which using the appropriate commands allows to extend the data during processing (replace, combine, add, remove etc).
Use 'Help' button at the top for more details on expression special syntax with provided examples.
In order to create the more complicated formula, use the following option on the top toolbar:
It helps to open the SQL editor form where you can specify the appropriate custom SQL script and check its correctness by helping with Execute buttons in the toolbar.
Please take into account, you should have the necessary SQL skills to create the correct formula and run it.
The field names in the first row, but not values - this should be unchecked, if the first row of the .csv file contains data, otherwise be sure this option is checked.
4) The fourth step of export shows basic export fields which you should check and, if necessary, edit:
- Select the records amount you want to export of the following options;
- Press an option on the right to check the value delimiter which will be used to separate fields data in the export file;
- Check multiple records separator - delimiter between multiple fields value.
Base Formats on this page contains the main date values and numbers. You can leave these data as they are.
Clicking on Export, you start data transferring.
You will see the summary results and the possible actions after export at the final step of the Wizard:
Choose one of them and specify the import configuration name if you need to use such export settings during the next transfer process:
You are able to keep it directly in the wizard list after pressing the 'Save configuration' option or save to a separate file - to expand the drop-down list with the necessary command click on the arrow button and choose the appropriate action.
If necessary, delete the activated configuration from the wizard - press the option for removal:
'Clear list' command helps to delete all configurations available in a list at once.
To exit from the Wizard press the 'Finish' button.
